Free Tool: Eisenhower Principle Matrix App

I want to introduce you to a new free tool I've been developing over the past few months behind the scenes...

It's called the Eisenhower Matrix App and I think it's pretty damn cool (even if I do say so myself).

If you're not too familiar with the Eisenhower method, or the inner workings of using the urgent/important matrix to categorise and prioritise your tasks, then you can read more about it here.

However for this post, I wanted to give you a detailed breakdown of how to use the new app effectively to get the most out of this tool

The App

If you can't wait and you just want to get stuck in and have a play around yourself, you can access the web app here: Eisenhower Matrix App.

But for those of you that'd like to dig a little deeper and see what this new tool can do, read on...

Getting started

Getting started is super easy, just shoot over to and create your free account.

Start by creating a free account.

Once you've created your free account, and confirmed your email address you're ready to go.

Inside the App

Here's what your dashboard inside the app will look like.

Just bare in mind that I'm using the dark mode for this illustration, but there's also a light mode if you prefer.

How it works

Each of the squares represent one of the four quadrants of the Eisenhower matrix:

  • Quadrant 1: Do First - Urgent and important.
  • Quadrant 2: Schedule - Less urgent but important.
  • Quadrant 3: Delegate - Urgent but less important.
  • Quadrant 4: Eliminate - Neither urgent nor important.

All of the tasks on your To-Do list should be entered into the appropriate quadrant inside the app, then worked through in order.

In other words you always start with quadrant one tasks and work your way through the quadrants from there.

But here's the thing.

The Eisenhower method isn't just a To-Do list - far from it.

Instead it's structured in a way for you to do more work on the things that align with your values and goals, and less work on everything else.

Creating tasks in the App

Ok, so now it's time for you to add your first task to the app.

Simply click into the text area where it says 'Create new task', write it down and click the button to save it.

Create new task

Follow the same process for all of your tasks until they are all in their designated quadrants.

Then, once all of your tasks are in the system you also have the ability to choose whether to:

  • Mark Completed
  • Focus Mode (more on that in a minute)
  • Delegate - Select this function to email a task to a co-worker
  • Delete

Your job is to work through, delegate or delete all of the tasks on your board in order of priority.

Oh, and one more thing.

You can also move tasks from one quadrant to another.  Just use the drag and drop feature.

Focus mode

The focus mode feature is pretty cool, in fact it's kind of an adaptation of the Pomodoro technique.

Simply put, you set the timer, and your goal is to complete the task at hand before the timer stops out - distraction free.

Completed tasks

As you complete tasks, mark them as complete by simply clicking the tick, and the system will store them for you.

click to mark as complete

You can then check out all of the tasks you've completed and give yourself a pat on the back for all your good work.

And now it's over to you...

If you haven't already, go create yourself an account, take it for a spin, and see what you think.

Just remember, building new habits takes time, so don't expect overnight success.

However, if you keep at it, the Eisenhower method will keep all of the work you do aligned with your values and goals heading on your own True North.  You've just got to keep at it that's all.

Oh, and if you're a pen and paper kind of guy/gal, then you can download a pdf copy of the Eisenhower matrix below.

Peace out.
